Privacy & your local data
Stepquill keeps your guides in this browser profile unless you choose to export, copy or print them. This policy describes the extension; visiting this website does not give it access to your guides. Last updated: September 13, 2026.
What the extension handles
When you click Capture a step, Stepquill captures the visible area of the active website. Screenshots can include personal information, private messages, passwords or payment details visible on that page. Review every screenshot before sharing.
Your screenshots, guide titles, instructions, step order, random identifiers, timestamps and data versions are stored in IndexedDB on this device. Page URLs and loading state are checked temporarily to validate capture, but are not saved. Stepquill does not read cookies, browser history, clipboard contents or background page content. It does not automatically record your actions.
Permissions and network access
The activeTab permission provides temporary access to the tab you invoke the extension on. There are no broad website permissions, accounts, analytics, ads, AI services, cloud sync or runtime network requests. The developer receives no screenshots or guide data through the extension.
Exports, clipboard and printing
HTML, PNG and backup downloads are created only when you request them. Backup files include the current guide and images with restoration metadata. Treat them as sensitive files. Copy image writes your saved screenshot to the system clipboard. Your operating system, clipboard history or sync, other apps, printers and chosen print destinations may retain or transmit copies outside Stepquill's control.
Redaction and undo
Solid Redact replaces covered pixels in saved and exported images. Blur, highlights and outlines are not secure redaction. Editing history and one cancelled draft can remain in tab memory; one previous saved PNG can remain for Undo image save. Undo may restore sensitive information. Recovery data is never included in exports or backups and is cleared on reload, guide change, tab close or when replaced/invalidated. Other steps and previous exports are unchanged.
Retention and deletion
Saved guides remain until you delete them, clear extension storage, uninstall the extension or lose the browser profile. Delete guide removes that guide and its unused image records. Replaced images are removed when no step references them. Unreadable records are not automatically deleted. Deletion cannot erase earlier downloads, OS backups, clipboard history or forensic disk remnants. Keep private backups of important guides; there is no cloud recovery service.
Limits of local storage
Local-first does not mean encrypted or invulnerable. Anyone with access to your browser profile or compromised device may access stored content. A browser crash can lose unsaved edits. Browser and operating-system behavior is outside the extension's control.
Limited use
Information accessed through Chrome APIs is used only to create, edit and deliver the guides you request, in accordance with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Guide data is not sold, used for advertising or used to determine creditworthiness.
Questions
